Selling Mustard

There are three types of mustard: Yellow, Oriental, Brown. The major market for yellow mustard is the North American condiment industry. The major market for oriental mustard is Asia where it is used as a spicy cooking oil. The major market for brown mustard is Europe where it is used in specialty mustards such as Dijon.

The Branding Canada program has been developed by industry and provincial governments to help sell Canadian food and agriculture products. Visit the Branding Canada website.

The demand for mustard is steady, and as a popular condiment the consumption of mustard tends to increase year over year. There are also new markets opening up for mustard, such as for use as an environmentally-friendly pesticide.

It is recommended that mustard is grown under contract to guarantee the market and the price for the producer. The four guides below go into detail about production contracts and related issues such as traceability and liability.
