New website cuts the mustard

Source: Saskatchewan Mustard Development Commission

Consumers have a new website dedicated to information on the food uses of mustard. The information comes courtesy of the world's top mustard growers - Saskatchewan producers - who are represented by the Saskatchewan Mustard Development Commission (SMDC).

SMDC's website at www.saskmustard.com is now a common portal for producer information as well as information that will interest consumers.

The newly launched consumer site has an explanation of the three classes of mustard - yellow, brown and oriental and their main food uses. The site has been designed to appeal to health conscious and young consumers who are looking for up to date information on one of the world's most important spices - a food product that has been used for centuries.

"The site offers cooking tips, recipes, health information and chef profiles," says Leslie Sanders, the Saskatoon based home economist that compiled and organized the information. Sanders has worked as a communications consultant with various commodity associations over the past twenty years.

The information on cooking with mustard includes prepared mustard, dry mustards, mustard seed, mustard oil and even mustard greens.

The attractive website design is the work of Greg Paulhus of Arxus in Saskatoon. He has registered the site with various Internet search engines to enhance the number of visitors.

The site was developed with assistance from CAFI, the Canadian Agriculture and Food International program.
